Founded in 2007 OzarksGBC is a regional council of businesses and residents aimed at bringing ecological building practices into the mainstream. Our vision is three fold: Conserve our natural resources by utilizing sustainable building products into our communities, Create new earth-friendly buildings and dwellings through the use of innovative products and techniques, and Educate our industries and communities on the importance of sustainable materials and efficient design.
The Ozarks region spans four states and contains four distinct geographic formations. Missouri and Arkansas are more commonly associated with the Ozarks, but Northeast Oklahoma and a slice of Southeastern Kansas are also part of the Ozarks. The region called the Ozarks is bordered on the north by the Missouri River, on the East by the Mississippi River lowlands, the southern border follows near Historic Route 40 through West Central Arkansas, and the Western boundary tapers off into the fields of the Osage Plains. The four geographic formations consist of the Springfield Plateau, The Boston Mountains, the Salem Plateau, and St.Francis mountains. These distinct features give the us the diverse terrain and natural splendor we cherish here in the Ozarks.
The promotion of earth friendly construction, sustainable site development, and efficient use of our resources just makes sense by itself; but when you live in one the most pristine, virtually untouched, undeveloped regions right in the center of the country. It makes even more sense. Every year, our population increases here in the picturesque Ozarks. People move here from all over the world, seeking “The Good Life”. We must take a pro-active approach to protect what we have from being developed to hastily, without regard to the landscape, the habitat, the natural beauty we love about our lands.
